Velvet Sovereignty – Mixed Media Crown Artwork
This artwork is a contemporary interpretation of the Imperial Crown of the British monarchy, inspired by the regal symbolism associated with Elizabeth II and the British Crown Jewels.
The piece has been created using a mixed-media technique combining acrylic paint, resin detailing, printed imagery, and hand-applied embellishments. The base image was printed and then extensively reworked by hand, allowing for a layered transformation that bridges digital reproduction and physical craftsmanship.
To enhance its luxurious and ceremonial presence, faux gemstones and decorative crystals were meticulously applied across the surface, creating a rich and jewel-like texture inspired by royal regalia.
The crown is set against a deep velvet-inspired purple background — a colour historically associated with royalty, power, and sovereignty. This contrast adds depth, drama, and a sense of timeless elegance to the composition.
Rather than functioning as a historical replica, this work explores the idea of monarchy as visual mythology, where beauty, symbolism, and illusion intersect. By combining contemporary materials such as resin with traditional painting techniques, the artwork creates a dialogue between ornament, identity, and modern reinterpretation.
